hi!
i am fiddling around with jack, jackdmp on osx.
i read somewhere here that it would imrprove load and latency of the os.
in my case pd runs better with the built in driver of osx. but then i miss the ability to connect...
i guess i still do it wrong.
if i set buffersize in jack to 512 frames at rate 44100 how is pd to set?
in qjackctl under linux it says 23.2sec at 512frames and nbuffers 2.
if i set that in osx i get bad performance. as soon f.e i use a complex fdn~ subpatch it starts crackling.
so how can that go togehter?
second block of questions:
i tried jackdmp_68.0 on osx. it shows everything in the routing window. (i tried with sc3 and pd,sc3 connects to jackmp)) as soon as i try to select "jack" in the media menu pd vapourizes completely...
if i uninstall jackdmp and reinstall jackosx74 it works sort of. (i did uninstall the jackosx packgage before i installed jackdmp)
help....!!!

Bug report filed by Boonier, hang in there matey ( I assume this goes back to 0.68)
Priority: 5

Summary: JackOSX 0.75 crashing Pd 0.40-2
Initial Comment:
The latest beta of Jack for Multiprocessor support: http://www.grame.fr/~letz/JackOSX.0.75b15.pkg.zip
Is crashing the latest version (autobuild) of Pd-extended 0.40-2 when Jack is selected from the Media menu.Search the forum for setting up Jack, its a FAQ - basically let Pd do it's own configuration and set everything from inside jack.
Use the Source.

oh...thats me!
Just sticking to 0.74 at the moment.

hi
everything works now (not 100%sure why that is....)
i had to completely uninstall pd, delete the pd.list in preferences.
then install pd-ext.40.3 again and i can connect it now in thejack
routing window.
before i tried to uninstall jackosx75b15 with the included uninstal
command but then pd would still look for the jackframework and crash.
weird to me was that even i deleted .pdrc it still had some of the
settings from that file.
Pd-0.40.3-extended-20071220 and jack075b15 working fine.

and...
if i select "jack" driver in the media menu pd crashes on the spot.
if i instead and only select "jackrouter" in audio preferences it works

*bump *
Has this been fixed for anyone?

**double bump**
I can't get sound from jack at all. I can't even start jack with qjackctl. I wish OSX were just a *bit* more like linux. ALSA-OSX anyone?
-
erm are you using a macintel? if so - internal sound card?

No Intel here, I wish... G4 ppc, TiBook 667mhz with Texas Instruments TAS3004.
I've used jack just fine with Linux and ALSA. To my surprise, when I opened QjackCtl just know, I actually got Jack active with the following;
/usr/local/bin/jackd -R -d coreaudio -p 512 -r 44100 -i 2 -o 2 -d AppleDBDMAAudioDMAEngine:0
I have no idea why the -R is in there, and how Jackd got away with it, but it seems to work with system sounds and Ardour2.
If I choose Jack Router from the audio preferences, PD shows up in jack, but no sound. If I [print~] the matrix, it is all zeroes.
If I choose Jack from the Media menu, complete trainwreck, many many Xruns and Pd freezes. -

Yep this happens with me also on my g4 pbook. I've logged a bug in the tracker and Hans is also aware of this. He said that it should be resolved in the next release, though I not too sure which release!! :/ I should get him to clarify.
Bit off topic - have you got your HD partitioned to run OSX or Linux (Ubuntu?)
thanks

Let me just add a comment about the G4 ppc, TiBook 667mhz, as I used to have one: It is atrociously slow under Mac OS X but very usable under Linux (especially Pd!).
-
well i've got a gig of ram and its a 1ghz machine. It doesn't win any races but its not sluggish to use. Pd works find, but its the GUI stuff that canes it. Appraently the next version uses a better version of TCL/tk and the gfx performance is much improved. Trouble is, i dont know which version that is!...again
Its much much better when running in Jack mode, which unfortunately doesn't work at the moment!!
If Ableton ran under Linux, I would be more tempted to give it a try....sorry!

@Boonier: I've got (@least) 3 machines, the TiBook, a 'Yikes!' G4, and a Pismo Powerbook. All running partitioned, dual boot systems. Distro is Debian, 2.6.23.x with realtime patch.
My main problem right now is that the linux_rt setup works best for audio(Ardour, Jack, PD), while the OSX works best for Video(GEM). This is mainly due to a problem which has been discussed here; Gem crashes unreliably on linux with certain stock graphics cards. I wish this were resolved, so I could use only linux.
