im a new user, and vanilla is great so far

trying to learn and use patches from the community, so when looking in deken for missing objects it recommends installing only from known sources ("only install externals uploaded by people you trust").

is there a way of knowing if an external is good for use and confirming the user that uploaded it?

There are no externals I'm aware of that shouldn't be trusted. I'm pretty sure that if something nasty appears it will become known across the Pd community lightning fast. I think you should just go ahead and download whichever external you want.
