Hi I am trying to make a video mixer with GEM in PD extended when ever it try to open any video file I get the same error message

Unable to connect filters -2147220969

does anyone know what this means?

@jb1439 What format are the videos?
Have you tried a .mov or a .avi?
Do you have quicktime installed.
Which OS are you running?
What else is in the console...... e.g......?

[pix_film]: DirectShow support
[pix_film]: QuickTime support

Do you have a codec pack like "k-lite" installed?

Thanks for your reply, so I ended up updating pure data and have installed the k-lite codec tried both .mov and .avi files and also installed quicktime. Although I no longer have the same error its comes up with

[pix_film]: unable to open file: D:/Documents/Pure Data/PSSEB/climate breakdown.avi

finding it rather tedious my OS is windows 10
any idea whats happening?

@jb1439 Spaces are a bad idea in path or file names in Pd but that is probably not the reason.
This might be a long thread.
If you don't have it on your computer.... in the Windows/system32 folder, or the Pd/extra/Gem folder for example..... try putting........ this in the Pd/extra/Gem folder.
Unzipped of course.
I doubt it's that actually but it will do no harm

Also..... do you have gem_filmAVI.dll in your Gem folder. It could be in extra/Gem/plugins-disabled in which case it should be copied into the extra/Gem folder.

Also.... which Pd version and are you sure that you have Gem that matches its bits (32/64)

Both of them are 64bit I just checked. Added the file you suggested and i do have the gem_fileAVI.dll . sadly the same error occurs.
I reloaded the PD extended version i can get it display video which is good but is liable to crashing as appose to the latest PD build so would love to get it working on that! Anything else I could try?

@jb1439 An experienced Gem user @aggraef contributed to a Gem issue report last year with this same problem....... https://github.com/umlaeute/Gem/issues/232
I have sent him an email to ask whether he solved the issue.

In the meantime please start Pd in verbose mode....... the easiest way is to make a shortcut to pd.exe which is in the Pd/bin folder. Then edit the shortcut target adding "<space> -vebose" after Pd.exe (<space> is just a space...... .... and no quote marks).
Then start Pd using the shortcut.
You will see more detail about the problem and you could post it to this thread
