First time I have posted but forum has always been a huge help to me.

I am creating a simple patch for processing a signal coming in through adc~. The source is fairly weak and I am having to multiply the signal by up to four to get a decent level of signal out. The signal out is fairly clean with no clipping or distortion. I know normally volume range is 0-1 so just want to make sure what I am doing isn't a big no no.

@01101 Hello. Yes, 0-1 is the full range when addressing your soundcard..... so you should not send more than 1 to your [dac~]..... or it will clip... but within Pd you can have as big a number as you need. It is limited only by the maximum number possible in your operating system. Pd will not "clip" internally until you reach that very large number.
For example..... if you add the outputs of 10 [osc~ 800] together you will have an audio signal peaking at "10". Then you need a volume control before the [dac~] to reduce it to "1"...... full volume.
