Hi all,

I'm a beginner to PD and not very technical so I hope you'll forgive me. I'm trying to load a VST plug-in to be used in PureData. I've followed the guide for "how to install/load pd externals" without success. I've put the .dll in (what I think is) the correct folder, it's the same folder as where PD says it's looking for Externals. Now how do I go about loading this plug-in? It's not showing up in Help > Browser.

@GVA94 I've downloaded the VST~.dll which should allow me to open VSTs. However when trying to open a VST plug-in with the following patch I get errors in the console that it can't open my VSTs.

It is very old, so it could be that you will need to compile it for your system.

I have never tried myself and even @gsagostinho gave up and went another route. You might find the help file I posted a while ago useful, if you don't already have it......

@whale-av Thanks for the quick reply. If experienced users can't get it to work then I probably won't either. I have been using that help file, but nothing I'm doing is opening the VST for me. I'm probably going to look at other options then. Thank you!

@GVA94 I just noticed that you have not set the number of inlets and outlets (must match the vst) and its name....... You should have something like.....
[vst~ 2 2 @pnames 100] as in the help file vst~-help.pd
or it will not create.
and the vst executable should probably be in the same folder as [vst~] or the same folder as your patch........ or at least a Pd specified path.

P.S. Where did you find [vst~]........ it might be useful for other PD'ers?

@GVA94 Just tried https://tal-software.com/products/tal-bassline
[vst~] finds the 32-bit version and gets parameter names..... etc....... I have not tried to get a "window" yet.
It does not actually care that I set two inputs when it doesn't in fact have any.....?
The 64-bit version tries to load and crashes Pd. But this is in extended. I will try again in 64-bit vanilla this evening and write it all up, but I need to get on the roof and fix a leak right now.....

PS and got the edit window for it and it works.......but the puddle is bigger..... talk later...
