I've done a bit of max programming, but since I can't afford it, I decided to get involved with Pd.

I installed the 0.38 extended version on os x.4.9, which worked fine. Having just upgraded to os x.4.10, Pd seems to launch 2 apps - one called Pd-extended, and the other called Pd, with no application icon. I don't think it did this before I upgraded. Is this normal - I think I read somewhere that Pd is two apps, but that the 0.38 extended version combines them.

Any help on this 'issue'(?) would be great.

Yes, Pd is in fact THREE programs that work together.

pd is the server/audio engie that does all the work

pd-gui is the front end interface (which is optional to run)

pd-watchdog is a monitor application that watches Pd and can do (things I don't know about) to
shut it down if it goes bad.

I think you might be confused about Pd and pd-extended (perhaps I'm wrong, but that doesn't sound normal)

Try "ps aux" at a console to see what is running in the process table.

the 'upgrade' you did has not replaced the extended version, so you now have 2 versions of pd installed on your computer.

if you open from a terminal window, then both versions will open because both are opened by launching the .pd file

maybe just grab a new version of pd extended from hans' site;

and if that works well for you delete everything else.
