I am loading samples of different lengths into a play/loop device (for now just modified from looper.pd) and I am curious if it possible to have the hsliders I am using for loop length and loop start change when a new sample is loaded so that the maximum value is synced with the end of the new sample? they are very different lengths anywhere from 25 sec to 2 min.....and above and below..

ps- is there a way to search this site, I looked through about 15 pages of tech answers before posting this, and I imagine the answer is in here somewhere (as so much great info is!) but just seemed a lot easier to ask.

When you load a sample from disk, you can use [soundfiler] to output the sample length.

If you set the slider limits to 0~100, say, you can then multiply the output of the slider by the sample length so that a setting of 50 should give a loop length of 1/2. You can also shift-click on the slider for fine-tuning.

If you want the slider output in terms of milliseconds, then just divide by the sample rate and multiply by 1000.

I'm not sure if you can remotely change the limits in a slider though - you can change array lengths using resize so there might be sth like that for sliders - anyone?

right click on a slider to bring up its help menu, and then look at [pd edit]... this tells you how to change the values on the fly.

in my experience though, a better way to do what you want is just set the slider so that it slides from 0 to 1.

then, you take the value from the slider, and multiply that by length of the sample

another question I have is about changing the size of tables...I am not certian that the entire audio file loads into the table the way I have it set up because I get a soundfile error: truncated to 1000000....?
How do I set the tables to accept whatever size audio file I open up?

use the -resize flag in the message going into [soundfiler]

[read -resize mySample.wav myArray(

you can also resize that array any time you like by referencing the array with messages. Look at 15.array.pd help file in the browser

in your message to soundfiler, add the following line:

-maxsize x

where x = a number large enough to hold your entire sample.
