I recently installed purr data on a new laptop. [tof/pmenu] doesn't pop a menu any longer, whether i raise the -legacy flag. I just get this sort of message in the cmd:

[2] legacy tcl command at 78 of /home/user/builds/jwilkes/purr-data/externals/tof/src/pmenu_w.h: tk_popup $1feca90w [winfo pointerx .] [winfo pointery .]

I'm not seeing any errors. Any body seen this? Is there a new object to use instead of pmenu?

@sunji There's one in the "Put" menu called "dropdown".

I'll have an upcoming port of tof/imagebang, but I've been reluctant to port tof/pmenu because it has a rather complicated widget behavior due to reliance on a native tk widget. (E.g., when you're in edit mode and want to click-drag it.)

@sunji A few differences:

• for large menus dropdown doesn't extend outside the window. It defaults to appear below the object, will appear above if doing so will avoid a scrollbar, and uses a scrollbar if the menu is too large to fit in the window
• if you set dropdown's width to 0, it will resize to fit the menu option that has the highest number of characters
• if you type a key while dropdown's menu is activated it will highlight the first menu option in the list that starts with that letter. If you type the same key again it will navigate to the next menu option that starts with that letter

Hi, I'm also a [pmenu] user, and I just tried [dropdown].
It's nice, but it lacks of gui customization (background color, etc...).
Personally I use dropdown menus inside my pd GUIs, and [pmenu] fits very well, it would be good to have it working in Purr Data.

@bamboomusic It might be possible to port pmenu by just reusing the menu from dropdown. I'll take a look when I get a chance, but it may be awhile unless someone else happens to port it.

In the meantime, do notice that dropdown's color scheme will inherit the colors given to it by the GUI preset chosen in the "Preferences" menu. So one solution might be to figure out a way to let the user or patch author somehow specify their own styles.
