Hi all,
does anyone know if it's possible to "refresh" the MIDI device list while Pd is running? i.e. you plug a new device on run.
Cheers,
Mario
refresh MIDI device list on run
Hi all,

@mario I don't know for all os...... but I doubt it.. If you are using windows then put this in a Pd path, or the "extra" folder and see if they are picked up when you bang the [listdevices( message....... midisettings.zip ..... but don't hold your breath.
If you cannot get new devices to "pop up" then maybe set Pd to receive only from an external midi patching program (that is already running before starting Pd)....... and then set that program to connect newly plugged devices through to Pd.......
In win7 I run "loopmidi" before opening Pd, and then run everything through that........ (to patch from any patcher program..... google midi loopback).

Set up as many ports as you need, before starting Pd.
In OSX it can be done through the audio-midi setup app.

Hi David,
thanks for this. I'll try and let you know. I'd like to avoid external software like "loopmidi".
Mario
@mario Yes, it's a shame if new devices will not "pop up". Without anything external the only idea I have at the moment would be to close Pd with a message from the patch that writes a batch file (or a shortcut) first and then runs it, to reopen pd as it was before..... but that's horribly clunky and might not be possible either.
If you can use Pd Extended...... new devices "pop up" reliably. One more reason that I still use extended exclusively (except when trying to help people with vanilla!)
...... They do not necessarily pop up in the order that you expect though. You have to be rigorous in the manner in which you start Pd and your drivers.
David.
