How to load libraries in PD
I want to load cyclone library that i copied in pd folder. when i use -lib cyclone. it is not loading? any idea , how to load external libraies in pd.
thanks.
Thanks. I found the solution. I used the "Pd-0.38.4-extended", and it contains the cyclone library.
Cheers for sharing your thoughts aloud and the solutions Ahmad, someone will find this udeful in the future.
Use the Source.
i have the same problem on linux (ubuntu 7.04)
i installed externals from deb packages (pd-zexy, pd-cyclone, etc) and all of them work fine, except cyclone.
tried -lib cyclone, -lib [full path to external]/cyclone, -lib maxmode.. pd just says "can't load library"...
maybe i need to build cyclone from source, but i cant find any instructions on this
I can't even get zexy to run, it always says "can't load library". Right now in my startup section I've got:
-path C:/Documents and Settings/admin/Desktop/pd/zexy/
-lib C:/Documents and Settings/admin/Desktop/pd/zexy/zexy.dll
The only way I can load it is by creating a [zexy] object, and then the main window will print the message from zexy, and then I can place Zexy objects - however, they don't give any output or do anything, so I think I still don't have it working right. It also crashes pd when I try to send "help" to the [zexy] object.
I'm usung pd version .40-2 and trying to use zexy version 2.1, will those work together?
Also - I know it sees /./pd/zexy/zexy.pd, otherwise there's no way it would have known what a [zexy] object is. So why can't it find the dll file that's in the same directory?
well I think I found out the problem. I downloaded the zexy 2.1 external for NT, which should have been fine. But some of the patches (||~, <~, >~) wouldn't copy correctly because they have characters that windows won't accept in the filename! I can get most of the zexy patches to work, but the above are the ones I really need.
I tried copying them with new filenames (lt~ and gt~), and pd will still let me place them as recognized objects, but they still won't give any output. Is there some way I can fix the external to recognize windows-compatible names for these patches, or are there equivalent patches for comparing signals?
Also I still can't load zexy from the path or startup lists - only by adding the [zexy] object (which is probably not a big deal).
arghh now I can't load the sIgpAck libraries...
what exactly do I need in my path and/or startup lists for zexy and sigpack?
sigpack readme offers no clues...
zexy has a readme and says to add the line "-path <mypath>/pd/externs" to my .pdrc...
first of all what's a pdrc, is that the same thing as the path list in pd file menu?
and the other thing is I don't have an "externs" directory... I've replaced 'externs' with /extra since the zexy bat file copied the files there, but it still won't load...
ok, it looks like I wasn't using the startup/path lists properly... the main problem was that I was using '-lib zexy -lib sigpack' on their own lines in the Binaries section, instead of the Flags section in Startup..... sigh
ok, i'd like to share my *happy* experience too : don't use deb package (the one that i've found was missing some files ), just download binaries and put it into ../pd/extra/
hey, I found this helpful too, but also haven't had success loading cyclone and zexy in .39.3 extended...which i have switched to in order to have these libraries and externals...
Perhaps I don't know how to use startup options? I tried that but still get a "can't load library" response.
any help in this appreciated, I am a new user..
thanks

i'll talk to neko so i can make a sticky for this, but for the moment click here and get a version of pd extended that you can install easily with one click:
thanks, however I have installed from this link, first the stable releases .38.4 i think, removed that and now have .39.3 installed, and I still get the same response...
?

edit:
I now have .39.3 installed and zexy and cyclone load and work fine, however, pdp and pidip do not load..and this is expressed after the GEM loading boast..
any ideas of where I should point the startup or where I should move the libraries so that they load? I am using 10.4.6
thanks (as usual)

Ok, actually I've found that the objects of sigpack are in the extended version..but some of the examples pop up with errors..I must be using them incorrectly. Can anyone give me a quick 'how to'?
Thanks in advance (I have scoured the web for how to do bit crush, distortion etc but no luck)
Bill
did you try [decimate~]
that does nice bit crushing.
well, still very new..do you have a baby patch that might show me how to use it?
thanks!
Hiya
I've downloaded the pdmtl abstractions, and have followed their step-by-step instructions on the dataflow wiki:
unzip, make sure you have the other extermals necessary ('moocow','tof', 'iemmatrix', etc...), create folder in user's library, create filepath in pd's 'preferences'...
but everytime I try to call one of the abstractions, pd can't find it. :{
and yes, i've tried restarting my computer
I read in some other forum that you have to have the search path for 'moocow' b-4 the one for 'pdmtl', but it doesn't help.
Anyone else feeling this?
