Hello again,

I have a question. Is there a way to list things I plug into my computer. Like a print command I can run in Pd that will list all the things currently plugged in?

What I want to do is control some DMX lights with Pd. Someone has very kindly lent me an adapter that will go between my laptop and the lights (USB dongle/plug and play) however I can't seem to find it on my computer.

I was thinking that there has to be a way to list them all...

Any help is much appreciated,

@tobyclbain Audio and video devices can be listed in Pd...... but dmx?
A dmx device will probably appear on a com port, Try this patch and see if it is found...... click through the com ports using the radio button while watching the terminal window.

If using windows there is a free portable utility which is easier to read than the msc devices panel......... and will let you know if it has been recognised and has drivers associated.

@whale-av Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! Both patches look great and if I can get it to work I will definitely make a console.

For now, this is the issue I'm currently having....

If I look for the device using [devices] message into [comport] (see screenshot) I only get port 0 = bluetooth.

However if I look in system information under USB I can see the WDMX device it listed.

I'm just wondering if there is another step I've missed out.

(And sorry I should have said I'm using a Mac.)

@tobyclbain Sorry, on windows...... but did any software come with the device?
If not you might need an ftdi driver at least?

@whale-av Yeah unfortunately that seems to only be available for Windows.

@tobyclbain Hello again, I changed the above post...... now for mac only......
The second link (a pdf download) tells you how to install drivers into OSX that might well work.........and includes a link to the drivers.......

I ended up emailing W-DMX and they said that the product was outdated, but that they also didn't support mac... so it probably wouldn't work anyway.

I guess I'll try a different interface!!

@tobyclbain There is a very good chance that it needs ftdi drivers (as above).... I would google around for any possible conflicts, and then install them. They are not part of the apple install.
A bit more info below if you have more problems.......... as it looks as though your machine might try to hold onto it as an Xhci device.

If you want to be certain before loading the drivers then have a look at the chipset(s) on the board and see what is known about them.......
