Hi, I've been using successfulyl mrpeach osc implementation for few years now and I wanted to do the same on my raspberry but there is no mrpeach objects! On my windows pc I'm using pd-extended. I am completely noob to linux system and even if I managed to install pd on the raspberry (vanilla I think) I'm not able to understand how to install mrpeach and osc externals via terminal. I know it probably is a very silly question but could you tell me which folder to go and what to download?

Installing externals is made easy these days with the Deken plugin. If you're using Vanilla 0.47 or above, go to help-->find externals. The just search for the packages you want and let the system do the rest of the work for you.

However, there is now OSC support natively in Vanilla, so you don't even need externals. [oscparse] and [oscformat] should take care of everything you need. If you're committed to the old system, you can still use mrpeach.

You can go to Miller Puckette's website and download the ARM version of Pd he has there. You'll have to compile yourself, but it's not difficult. There are instructions in the INSTALL.txt file.

the ARM tar will throw an error when uncompressing. I tried to follow the instruction for vanilla 0.47:

"On linux, for example, cdto src and type "make -f makefile.gnu". You can then run directly out of the
pd/bin directory without even having to do the "install" step."

how do I run it? the executable in /bin doesn't do nothing and typing puredata in the terminal will result in a' command not found'.

I tried to follow these (http://puredata.info/docs/faq/debian) steps to get the pd-extended but when I get to the "sudo apt-get install pd-extended" I get something like "pd-extended doesn't exists"

If you could just link me where to download the mrpeach library and how to put it in vanilla 0.46.2 that is more than enough.

ok. I managed to install pd-extended (although it looks like there's no GEM in it). it's working fine except that when I turn on DSP there's a really bad noise in the background. When playing sounds within pure data is fine, you can't hear it but I was wondering if it's a matter of settings (using ALSA right now) and if you have any suggestion..?

I personally have downloaded the ARM version of Pd on my laptop and I'm transferring it to any embedded computer I want (I'm using a few). From there I just follow the instructions in INSTALL.txt. I usually go for the following:

./autogen.sh
./configure --enable-jack
make
sudo make install

which means that I'm using Jack with almost all Linux images (the only computer I'm not using Jack with is the C.H.I.P., the 9 dollar computer, which uses ALSA).
Did you run the make -f makefile.gnu command?
In Pi's terminal cd to the src/ directory of Pd_ARM and type this:
make -f makefile.gnu
that should create a proper executable in the bin/ directory. Dunno if that executable can use Jack, which I highly recommend you to use.
In general the on-board audio of the Pi is super crappy, you're better off with an external sound card. Actually only the C.H.I.P. seems to have a decent audio, from all embedded computers I've used..

BTW, if you have vanilla 0.46-2 you're good to go without mrpeach, since [oscformat] and [oscparse] are part of that Pd distribution.

thanks for the info. I installed the arm version but I can't run it (the executable in /bin doesn't do nothing). How should I run it from the terminal? Writing pd or puredata doesn't do nothing (while instead it was working with the 0.46 version). I am on Raspberry 3. However the audio issue was only within pd. turning on DSP would produce noise in output. audio from other sources is good.

ok, I was hoping for this to be straight away but it's not so I'll get rid of mrpeach and use oscformat within 0.46.2 (there are still issues with noise when DSP in turned on and the only working audio setting is ALSA, the other are crashing or terrible)
However I saw in the help there's only an example about sending osc messages. Can you help me translating this patch in the image with the new objects please? thanks

With [oscformat] you can omit the slashes (but you can also include them if you like to keep the standard OSC protocol format). If you omit them, [oscformat] will add them behind the scenes.
As for the error message it's because you've created [oscformat addr1 addr2]. This object will receive the list you're sending and will prepend "addr2" to it, so [route addr1 addr2] will spit "addr2 1.5 2.6" out its left most outlet, and [unpack] below that will receive a list with three elements where the first one is a symbol "addr2". [unpack] with no arguments expects floats, and this is what the "type mismatch" message means.
What you want to do is create two [oscformat] objects, one [oscformat addr1] and one [oscformat addr2]. [oscformat] creates a list with its arguments and whatever arrives in its inlet. Using [route] you can use the first element of the list as an address and receive the rest of the list. This means that you should use one argument as an OSC address and send the rest of the data to its inlet.

I am sending 2 integer values in range 50 -800 to /addr1 and /addr2 but this shouldn't be the issue as it's working for a while at the beginning. I'm sending them quite fast (from a

Hi, I just found the (silly) error. I'll post the code as I didn't see it in the examples and might be useful to somebody else. Using pyOsc you append values to the message. This means that they keep accumulating in the list you are sending unless you delete them with clearData()

    oscmsg1.append(int(val1))
    c.send(oscmsg1)
    oscmsg1.clearData()

On 0.46.2 if I try Jack audio it returns this error:

JACKerror: Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
JACKerror: Cannot connect to server request channel

do you know any way to have it working?

I had problems with Jack with an Odroid and some Debian images I was trying out. Couldn't figure out what was going on, I sent an email to Jack's mailing list, but still couldn't solve it. Eventually I used an Ubuntu image and everything worked smoothly.
I suggest you either send to Pi's forum or check Jack's mailing list archives.
