i have a question about playing sound files.
i found out how to change playing speed of a file using tabread4~, but i want to be able to change the tempo without changing sound's pitch. (it's like the 'master tempo' button on some of pioneer cd players.)
also is it possible to change the pitch without changing the tempo? (or is it that 'pd hilbert' stuff in ssb mod.?)

any suggestions

There are a number of ways to do pitchshift and timestretch, but granular synthesis (the above example) is probably a less complicated way to have control of pitch and time separately.

separating the tempo and pitch entanglement requires traveling from the time domain into the spectral domain. FFTs (Fast Fourier Transforms) do this, then you need to do heavy analysis (banks of z~ and samphold~ may be useful.

another, dirtier option is to use tabread4~ not on the original sound, but on an array that is being fed blocksized sample strings with tabsend~. if you swistch~ the blocksize to be longer than the wave lengths of your sound sample, you can alter the perceived pitch of the sound without effecing it's duration.

This makes no sense, but I'm not drunk and I'm posting it anyway.
