@Jojo Lapin
More "newb" than you might think (I had to google what "RTFM" meant
Background: I wanted a pedal app on my handheld(s) for a long time, so when I stumbled on the Guitar Extended website a HUGE search-light went on and I knew like flesh, bones, and blood, my prey was in reach.
So I spent approximately 4 months, hacking away, learning as I went, piecing together as best I could, variations and permutations on that theme, from all the work in this forum and other websites.
They all resulted in "no avail" so I stepped backed, refocused, did some real (as above) and very serious soul searching about what i really wanted, which was to make music.
The last incarnation of that "app" is now the patch I am using and I am Very satisfied with it.
On the other hand, it has been a long standing Rule of mine (which I have taught my 14-year old son and 10 year-old daughter now for about 6 years, the other two being: 1) Have as much fun as you possibly can, 2) give it ALL you've got, aka. "Run through the base") that (3) Do the best you can to minimize the negative impact your search for happiness has on others equivalent search for happiness.
Also, I felt that I might consolidate into one post (an issue I see that others coming to the forum might have) and so asked my "betters", so to speak, to once, and possibly for all, set the matter to rest under one heading.
And, as to lack of feedback, had I thought longer, I might have guessed that, as the facebook feedback on my work is almost nothing to nil.
So, how does one balance, one's compulsion (however benign, selfless, and magnanimous) with others rights/obligations to also share?
I agree I really did not "have" to ask, and "yes" I could have posted (and might still doe so) at the rate at which the "output~" is created.
And, in truth, the ghost I am asking is actually my "self".
So, given, what both @Jojo Lapin and @jancsika, I will "uncork" the bottles, "open the valve", "let 'er rip", in the manner most in alignment with my Muse, which is "prolifically".
And add one and only one caveat:
"Ignore at will".
And not a caveat, but perhaps, an Olive Branch:
May those works you Do listen to excite you, inspire you, entice you, make you laugh, cry, etc. etc., or maybe even educate you, or even if your instinct provides giggle with disdain or disgust.
Footnote/Story:
In my about-second-month of learning, I stumbled on mmb's eq7 filter.
My awe, wonder, humility, and down-right confoundedness was such, I spent about 40 minutes in my bathroom tub with the shower on and lights out, almost in tears, with the thought, being repeated over and over: What place do I have in a world where there are geniuses like that?
Yet, and here is the Really Fun part, two weeks later I had learned enough to incorporate that work into my effects rig.
PD is un-f'in'-quivocally VERY steep curve to climb.
But, and this is the part that makes my heart warm over with love and joy, there is Hope, because once (and this is a quote) I told my friends and loved ones:
"I am walking on the shoulders of giants."
And yet, now I tell them:
"I have been invited to the dinner party, tho I am sitting at the kids table or a waiter serving tea (in my own mind with an all-white uniform on a huge silver tray over my head).
I will close with this.
To any one starting out with Pure Data (which is really who I intended the audience to be as the "Giants" added there input, like @Jojo Lapin and @jancsika):
The Gate is Open;
You will Learn;
This IS a place to share, experiment, try-out;
But,
as is an Eternal and Everpresent Law, in ALL communities:
Seek NOT to be "heard", but BE thankful for the opportunity to share.
If someone, ANYone, listens, that IS a good thing.
But do NOT Expect that for the work you do.
The Work and your ability to manifest it is its own reward.
Sorry, for the length, Everyone, but I did/do/have a lot to say about this.
I like so many others of us, newbs, dwarfs-on-shoulders, giants, or even waiters and waitress, we are One-and-All Wild F'n' CRAZY in love with this amazing tool and what it is capable of.
-peace
p.s. @Jojo Lapin and @jancsika what you'll said DID help. And I am very thankful to you both. My "anxieties" are not entirely my own, and it is good to have people who help to alleviate them. Thanks.
And @Jojo Lapin thanks, for sharing your feelings about "Once there was a Cosmos". I told my brother I am only 50% deft with my patch right now, so am excited to get back into the studio and learn more about how to use it. Have yet to tell him: that the learning curve is parabolic .
