My name is samstram, I am an artist working with collectif Fossile to create installations and performances in public places.

it seems I experience the same problem. Let me add some details about my config: osx 10.6.8, arduino NG rev C, pd extended 0.43.4, 32 bits.

I have difficulties trying to control my old arduino NG revC using firmata and pduino.

Although I am kind of a noob with arduino and pd, let me please try to explain my problem.

• I downloaded and installed the ftdi driver required for my NG board.

• I then manage to load on the board and run a basic led blinking sketch through arduino 1.0.5 software.

• the standard firmata version included in arduino 1.0.5 (2.1 ?) successfully compiles and loads on the board, but the standard pduino library included with pd extended 0.43.4 for OSX won't work. ie, I am able to open the right serial line device through the "serial port #" box in the "arduino-test.pd" patch, but no other box will work (info, version, firmware). Everytime I click on one of the those, the orange lights on my arduino board flashes, but the pd console returns nothing.

• I downloaded the pduino 0.5 package from H-C Steiner's website.

• the standard firmata sketch included in firmata 2.2 won't compile through arduino software. I don't include error log since it is very similar to Leech's one above.

• I replaced the pduino library included in my version of pd extended with the version downloaded from H-C's website, but this doesn't work any better.
  I could not find yet any specific information on the web related to an old firmata / pduino version that would particularly fit the NG board.

• At this point, my poor competence shows limitation and I am left with only two options :

• either get a more recent version of the arduino board, which would be sad !

• or try to design a sketch using proce55ing, which might be quite difficult since I will need some advanced audio features that would be easier to access with pd.

It would be veryhelpful if anyone here could provide some clues reagarding my problem. I don't know if many artists or hackers still use arduino NG boards...
