hello,
could you tell me where I can download the vst~ external (and its documentation)?
I cannot find any active links...l.

it does not ouput any sounds (windows)
messed up with settings (on TWO different PCs). It crashed every times.
Tried on a Mac. It only worked with a simple sine output patch. -
the GUI is ***UGLY***. How do you think to work with it????
-
Why do I have to spend two hours for doing a stupid silly sound when in 3 (three) minutes
I can build a complete soundscape chaining VST plugins? -
All in all: this thing is coming from the past. We're in 2006! And, after the initial enthusiasm, I have
to admit that all these GPL stuff sucks: extremely buggy, ugly interfaces, no documentation..
It's better to pay for avoiding waste of time...
cheers

I tried the vst~ external (pd ver 0.39-2 on Windows XP HE) but I had some problems:
- once created the vst~ object box in the patch becomes invisble
- with some VST it crashes pd
- when I succesfully load a VST plugin (e.g. PlasticZ), I send some notes (using the patch in the
example/help): the plugin receive the notes but It does not emit any sounds...

obiwannabe, thanks for your suggestions...
I am having an ultra- accelerated self-training course on PD (argh, if I close my eyes I see those
ugly BW boxes and wires...). ButI MUST got it. And in less than two weeks, not in 9 months...I also tried the extended.. "distribution" too, but I must admit I still do not understand how
to load and use the externals...,
for example, I cannot load the GEM examples (got some errors on objectsc reation) could you (or someone else) give me an help?also, do you know if there is a bloodshed dev c++ project for a simple external out there?
speaking about the Atari ST... I know.
I had a *nice* time with it. I also rememberwith nostalgia that very powerful (well, for that rimes) GFA Basic environment. I wrote some nice apps with it.
my most...(let say) popular CD release was made on ST, so many years agothanks for the info

> To start with, I'd recommend pd-0.39-2 from http://www-crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.html ,
that's the one I've got! (at least here, I'm right
>If you're happy using VST's to make soundscapes, then use them. Pd is more for you if you want to create sounds that no-one else has, IMHO, and have the flexibility to do almost anything
I know... but I still feel more confortable with a traditional language (C++, pascal), also
for writing my personal VSTs (you know, for those weirdest things...)
I think it's still easier to write "algorithms" with a textual language,
without a graphical metaphore.
But now I need to teach a course on "languages for electronic music" in classical, academic shool.
they don't know DSP matchematics or something like,
so I need to urgently search for use a more "abstract" instrument for doing the lessons...
Tried also Jmax but on Windows (required OS, because > 95% students use billgatesware ) is quite unstable.cheers

>> it does not ouput any sounds (windows)
>I think the problem you have identifed is in parenthesis.
yes, probably. but now I'll try to run it on my Atari ST
>You need to use the mouse and keyboard.
do you mean that there's no speech control????
>All things come from the past and end up in the future. This is due to the entropy, the so called arrow of time
mhh... this is just a anthropomorphic vision of reality...
besides all the jokes,
what I need to ask now is where I can find reference for all objects:
I know that there's no menu of them and i have to type their name in those little boxes, but
I nee to know, at least, what objects I can create, typing their names, is it true?
so, I would like to have a list with the object identifier (for oscs, filters etc.), their
details (kind of filters, slopes, ripples etc. for filters, as example ), their parameters (cutoff, Q, etc.)
is there a documentation like this?thanx
