Sorry about the title to this, can't explain it any better with the word count limit.
OK so....
I used to work on PC and used Wavelab a lot for basic editing functions but I found I really enjoyed using one of its features in a more creative way. When the audio file is playing, you can drag a selection and the playhead will jump to that new point in the file. With loop playback on I could play very small parts and create some nice stutter effects. I've looked at a number of Mac based editors but I can't find this feature in any which led me to think the only solution apart from running windows inside OSX is to create it in PD. Problem is, I am very much a beginner and haven't the desire to learn the huge number of things possible in PD so the task is very daunting.
However, if someone knows what I'm describing and could give me some keywords to look up in the help file to help me focus my learning and achieve this I would be ever thankful.

Hardoff, I had the same issue as arif did, it crashed whilst playing with the loop points.
In the meantime I've actually found a Mac editor which does what I was looking for. I downloaded the DSP Quattro demo and it does the playing whilst jumping between loop points thing

But IxiQuarks' looks very interesting even so, I'll check it out!
