@gsagostinho one thing I want to add. I've run into some weird problems with the deb package on a 64-bit Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 installation. (both on my laptop and on my tower).

Basically, if I install the package (even if I install libtk8.5 prior to this) I do get some dependency errors and it advices me to run "apt-get install -f" just like the pd-l2ork website. If I do that on the other hand it does install loads of packages but also for some reasons uninstalls pd-l2ork, jack, and various other programs. (I guess that's why original poster couldn't find pd-l2ork after running "apt-get install -f")

I then need to run the .deb package again to get pd-l2ork installed, it still complains about dependencies but runs fine afterwards. But now everytime I run apt-get -f it tries to uninstall pd-l2ork, jack and loads of other apps.

@gsagostinho , I ran into the same problem on Gnome Ubuntu 14.04 and manually installing libtk8.5 did the the trick. Thank you very much.

I've searched the forum and found couple of similar threads but none have offered a solution. (although some threads end abruptly with "yay, i fixed it" without sharing how the person fixed it :/ )

I am running 64 bit Xubuntu 13.10 on an Acer C7 chromebook (chrubuntu) and when I start Pure Data or Pd-Extended nothing happens. If I start it via the command line it gives me "Watchdog: Signaling pd..." every couple of seconds forever without starting Pure Data. I find this rather odd because I tested it on the same computer a year ago or so and it worked flawlessly. (although on a different OS installation)

Is anyone familiar with this issue?

I am having the same problem, It even stops other audio using Jack. Using Alsa Sink does not help either.

edit: vanilla Pure Data does not suffer from this.
    I am using Ubuntu 14.04

small update, if I try to run pd (and pd-extended) through terminal with "-nogui" I get the following.

ALSA input error (snd_pcm_open): Device or resource busy
ALSA output error (snd_pcm_open): Device or resource busy

    Thanks but sadly, no change.

I am using the default in xubuntu (ALSA, right?), but I tried starting puredata with the jack argument (after installing and starting JACK) but I got the same results.

edit: also, suspending pulseaudio before running puredata had no effect.

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 13.10 I would guess but it happens when I accidentally paste a lot of text into a node/box in PD. (in other words, when I input a lot of text quickly)

HardGroove, I think you are better off creating a new thread as this thread is hardly relevant anymore as it 4-5 years old.

Btw, I am using Ubuntu 13.10 on an i5 processor, 8gb of RAM and no video card and it works fine for me. I've also tried it on Xubuntu with same results. So I am pretty sure your experience is not normal. Your computer should be able to handle it just fine.
