    Hi,

I've been working with pd for a few months now and would like to start working on some generative music, as im starting to research markov chains and cellular automata for a college project. Does anybody have any patches they would like to share as i would be very interested in studying them?

I really like this patch by jackullyt from youtube:

I've tried looking for the patch on the forum as jack said that he posted on here in the comments section under the video. Does anyone have a copy of this patch or know of its whereabouts as i can't seem to locate it?

    cheers.

Im working on my first patch in pd and im taking some ideas from the flossmanual online tutorial guide; one of which is a tremolo effect. My problem is that after implementing it into the sine wave, where it seems to work fine, i can't seem to get it modulating on either of the other waveforms after trying a whole range of different dc offsets which either created clipping or even reversal of the wf in some cases.

Is it possible to modulate these wf's with tremolo at all? i'm sure it is because i've seen tremolo guitar pedals with these options.

I've attached the patch and the waveform subpatches are located in the [pd synth] object. I was considering using the tremolo as a master effect but as it doesn't modulate two of the wf's with the sines signal chain, i've resorted to feeding the oscillators separately. If anyone could help either by explanation or implementation, it would be greatly appreciated as i'm not sure if what i'm trying to do is even possible.

Sorry for the primitive looking patch by the way.

    thanks.

woops, i see what i've done with the floats now.

Here is where i'm currently at with the patch. What should i connect to the first inlet of the adhsr abstraction in order for this to work properly? I've tried metro and im still getting the error message for the incorrect bang message you spoke of earlier.

    Hi guys,

    Cheers for the replys,

Berenger, cheers for helping me out with the loadbang.

Toxonic, bare with my stupidity here, as i've only started with pd but my reasoning behind the integers was that i thought that midi values should be integers as that is how they are on the scale (1-127), therefore i thought it was necessary to round them. I enlarged the size of the sliders and i received floats in the number boxes, maybe this was part of the problem as the slider scale is 127 therefore i assumed i would receive integers.

Are you saying delete the float boxes and cast the select outlets to the hot inlets of the integer objects, then feed the sliders into the cold inlet? i'll have a look at the envelope now and see if i can sort it out.

Thanks for the help guys, Its a steep learning curve getting to know this programme, but its fun to work with.

Just to add to my previous message, as the sliders are controlling the time domain of the adsr, am i right in thinking that i need some kind of scaling to convert the sliders outputs to milliseconds?

I've also attempted to start the envelope from the sequencer using a trigger, bang, and message box containing 1 from the metro with varied results; none of which i've had much success as there seems to be a lot of clicking when using an [eadsr~] object and the signal doesn't seem to be responding to the [pd adsr] object at all.

    hi berenger,

Thanks for the reply, i've applied what you've stated to the patch, which i've attached to this post, but it still doesn't seem to trigger the Adsr. Is there a problem inside the adsr subpatch which im not picking up on?

the vertical sliders which control the envelope are set between 0 and 1, is this correct?

thanks for taking the time to help.

the adsr object on my patch is an abstraction from someone else on this forum. Im not sure how to use it either. I've been trying to create an envelope generator which is flexible and can be changed in real time like most synths. the [vline~] and [line~] don't offer this option from what i gather.

i'm afraid i'm as stuck as you are my friend.

Cheers for the reply vortex. The tremolo seems to keep the same signal, as you stated. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I've added a sequencer and a few filters along the way, but i'm having trouble with envelopes now. I found a pd object off the forum, but i can't seem to get it to trigger. I know it should be the last thing connected before the [dac~] but i lose signal when i connect it.

Im also having an issue when i load the patch up. I seem to have to do a lot of tinkering around with the parameters to get a signal initially. I think i have to use a [loadbang] object, but i'm not sure where i have to place it in the patch, or if this is even the right object to use.

sorry to be a nuisance but its my first patch and i've obviously got a lot to learn. If anyone feels like helping a noob out, i've attached the patch below.

    cheer
