I too am having problems: I constructed like the patch here and i open a gemwin and i get a black screen nothing more nothing ever

Gem .91 doesn't recognize any device at all (error: failed opening device: '/dev/video1') and "device 0" message gives me nothing....

Gem .90 gives me a brief moment of hope in the PD window but fails to show anything ... the PD window at one point said UCview (or some such referent to my webcam) and brightness and colors however I can't recreate and I'm still seeing a black gemwin

i also tried where my webcam ought to be /dev/video0 and i still get nothing on either...

Asus EEEPC 2.6.22-14 realtime kernel Ubuntu 7.10 pd extended and pd vanilla with gem .91 & .90 respectively
