anyone more advanced users want to help out an absolute newbie?

i have loads of experience with hardware and abelton and the like. i am just not getting the whole language of pure data. the resources on the web are plenty but i feel like i am putting together cheap particle board furniture. its just totally new to me and i feel like i am missing step 1.
