Here we have a run-of-the-mill [line~] based sampler;

patch: polyphony.pd

Pretty basic. One "limitation" about this design, however, is that whenever you hit the play button, the current sound stops and [tabread4~] jumps back to the beginning and begins playing again. Of course, this is expected and is what we want most of the time.

But what would I need to do if, when I hit the play button, I didn't want the sound to cut-off and start over, but continue? In other words, if you depress the sustain pedal on a piano and play multiple notes, you hear each note play out its full length, but you also hear all other notes enter as well.

I envision I would need a bunch of **[tabread4]**s to accomplish this. Would they all be able to read from the same buffer? Or would I have to copy the sample into multiple arrays?

How would I handle the triggering mechanism for this? I want this to sound like a piano in my example above. Each note is triggered individually, but the onset of each note doesn't affect any others.

Let me know if I am not explaining this well.

Oh also I'm not asking anyone to build this whole patch for me. I'm just looking for ideas

It's not the tabread object that's handling the playback time, but the line object, right? So you just need to have a float remember the last position that the line sends out, and then use that for the input again.

@LiamG Ah I wasn't being clear. I am envisioning triggering samples like piano notes with the sustain pedal held down. Each time you trigger a note, you hear each note play for it's full allotted time.

In my sampler above, tabread4 can only keep track of one note at a time. I was wondering if there is an elegant way to keep track I multiple voices at the same time.

I Am currently doing just that however my setup is with a midi controller....

you basically need to make copies of your sampler.e.g if you want it to be able to play 5 sounds at the same time make 5 copies.

You need to find a way to route your "play sample" button to each copy every time you press the "play sample"

I see, sorry for the confusion. @jjegede01 's solution will work, although you will always be limited to 5 (or however many) playbacks at one time.

You can use my multisl object to visualize the playback if you want.

@seed Thanks for the heads-up, although D11.sampler.poly to me seems incomplete. Is this what you have?

I can get the qlist file to play, but I feel like the sample triggering mechanism is missing. Shouldn't there be something going in the left inlet of the first [sampvoice] abstraction?
