Heya, having a little difficulty with packing values to be used by an envelope generator - I've managed to get attack, sustain and release to work but decay is proving to be very awkward! Here's my patch, you can find the subpatch that I'm currently working on in pd cell1 > pd ampenv1.

@Jamestocher Hi I took a look at your patch. I would consult the pd examples for this. Remember that decay is just the ramp from the top of the attack to the sustain volume. Check out audio.examples D01 and D02 for some ideas:

Still no idea. I'm consulting so many documents, following instructions, and I simply can't get it to work. also trying to write the line data to an 'array' object and have no clue.

Hi James,

Why don't you try using the object [vline~] to generate the envelope? It receives messages such as this:

[0, 1 50 0, 0.5 50 50, 0 100 900(

This message can be understood as follow:

• start at value 0
• move to value 1 in 50ms with a delay of 0ms (so starts to ramp up to 1 immediately)
• move down to 0.5 in 50ms with a delay of 50ms (so after it reached 1)
• release to 0 in 100ms starting at 900ms (so the note will have a total length of 1 second)

Once you get used to the way these messages work, you will see how handy this object is when creating envelopes.

Not true, the thing is your array is to small, and the samples that are nearby have similar values (so it looks like they are all the same). Read on and you will see how this works

I'm sorry but your patch is quite messy and I really can't go through it in details. But here are some suggestions:

• leave the [metro] objects on from the beginning
• simply bang [tabwrite~] when you want to write data to it, so do not use [metro] there, just a simple [t b]
• resize the array so it fits a certain amount of time. If the array has 44100 points, it will write 1 second of audio (assuming your sample rate is 44100).
• [tabwrite~] works as follows: once banged, it will fill the array with the incoming signal, so the duration of the recording depends only on the array size. To have this variable, simply use some [; env1 resize $1( type of message and control the value $1 according to whatever parameters you want
