I have just (minutes ago) installed pd on Windows 7, 64 bit.

Pd Version: 0.43.4-extended
Tcl Version: 8.5.13

The program works fine, but will not run the sample pd demo file at the obiwannabe site here:

  http://www.obiwannabe.co.uk/tutorials/html/tutorial_motors.html

The problem is that the "ead" object cannot be loaded for some reason. This problem was reported 8 years ago here, and the solution was to replace "ead" with "vead" in the .pd file. That has not worked for me. Same problem. I get the error message:

 vead~ 3000 3000   
 ... couldn't create"

Any ideas as to what might be wrong and how to fix?

I did find "ead.dll" located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\pd\extra\creb

On Linux 64-bit, I can create the object [ead~] without any problems. Which error do you get when you try to create this object?

Same error as with "vead" ::

I also noticed that I could not save a new Path (Edit Preferences). I could add new, click apply, but when restarting PD the prefrences list for paths was empty.

Perhaps there is a problem with how the Windows version is looking for .dll extensions?

What if you try to create [creb/ead~ 3000 3000], what happens then?

As for the path list being empty, mine only contains my own paths so I guess it is normal to have it empty in a fresh install (I honestly can't recall it for sure, sorry).

Hi, I am glad to hear that!

Nowadays most people tend to create objects as [library/object arg1 arg2 ...] because it is not only more organized, but you don't have to load any library. Probably this library needed an import (some of them do, such as mrpeach). So either you create a [import creb] and then [ead~], or you do it with the method I showed you above. Using this notation of [library/object], you will never have to bother about knowing which libraries have to be imported or not, which is great.

That's the way it is. That behaviour has some history behind it. Having only one path is the current solution to a variety of problems having multiple paths can cause. So you should create a folder somewhere and this folder should become your place for abstractions.

amazing ... had the same problem with ead~ ... I am SOOOOOO glad I found this forum. That's two headaches avoided today!
