Hello All,

I am pulling some data from my terminal using shell and python and I am getting the string "time=274.286"

I would like to just output the float number, how do I edit the string in Pure Data to just get the numerical data? (ie "274.286") I have tried route and the various list commands but I haven't been successful.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Maybe what you want can be accomplished by manipulating that string with Python and sending the float directly from Python to Pd. If so, you could send data via OSC (see: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/python-osc ).

Many thanks for you answer, yes this is def a workaround. I just wondered if there was anyway to do it without having to rewrite stuff. Is it possible to just split the string in PD? it seems quite difficult unless there is a space between different parts of the message.

{zexy/symbol2list] will be your friend. Something like this:

[time=274.286(
I
[prepend symbol]
I
[symbol2list =] -left inlet sets delimiter
I
[unpack s f]

If you are using pd 0.46 there might be a way using [text ].
