Since control in Pd is not restricted by the limitation of MIDI's 127 steps, parameters can easily be changed smoothly to accuracies of milliseconds and samples. However, if you then use a hardware MIDI controller to control the parameters, you're back to square one, and the 127 steps again...

Are there any such hardware controllers on the market that can control the parameters on Pd to the same accuracy as a mouse can??

One can distribute data across midi channels- for example; control can be the product of the velocity and the note number, giving you 127^2=16129 steps of control.

I've tried my behringer bcr2000 (which is good value for little money) and found that even when a controller has reached its upper (127) or lower (0) limits, it keeps sending those numbers when you keep turning that controller. So e.g. when a controller has reached (midi) 127, when i keep on turning it to the right, it keeps sending a stream of 127 values. So this way it would be possible to do whatever you want with that valuestream.

You could for instance build a custom counter system, that increases/decreases its internal counter, based on the value stream you receive.

I don't know however if other controllers behave the same way.

Thanks Guys, but Sunji does this not mean that you'd need to move two hardware controllers at the same time to get the multiplication going (and convert one of the streams to note-on data)? Could you give me a hint on how to actually implement this?

Domien, I think I have some perfomance controllers on my Korg Z1 that are 'infinite' so maybe I can try these - I guess then it's just a matter of scaling the control stream in pd to whatever you're controlling.
