I am a novice who is slowly making his way through various tutorials in PD. I am having trouble making my volume fade. The simplest patch I've tried using the line~ is as follows:

[osc~ 440]
l
l [0 500(
l /
l [line~]
l /
[*~]
l\
l \
[dac~]

Sometimes I get an error message. I'm sorry I didn't write it down and it doesn't seem to be coming up now that I'm running the patch again. I've tried connecting the osc~ and dac~ objects directly and I get sound with the DSP on. I can adjust the volume in the *~ object without a hitch. The problem is unique to the line~. Like I said, I'm just trying to follow the tutorials and old posts on this forum. I wish I had a more challenging problem to post but I'm really stuck and would like to move on to more advanced topics!

Your example should work fine. If you use [$1 500( instead of [0 500( and you attach a toggle to (before) it when the toggle gives one line~ goes to 1 in 500 ms and when the toggle is off line~ will go to 0 in 500 ms.
