I have just started using PD, and I like the software, but I am having a bit of trouble. While I can find some objects such as lop~ or line~ or whatnot in tutorials of used in context in docuimentation, I cannot find a definitive list of PD objects.

Is there a list (hopefully with documentation) of objects? Right now, using PD is like learning C++, but not having any of the standard libraries (or at least any sort of documentation for it). CSound has a definitive list of all its opcodes (with documentation), but it doesn't look like there is anything like that with PD.

How do people use PD without knowing the objects available?

Good question Rex. This comes up time and again. I have posted links to object lists before and you may find them if you search here in this forum. Sorry i don't have time to find them now. However, the issues are:

1. They aren't always in the same place so it's hard to give a definitive answer
2. They keep changing - because Pd is in a state of development
3. Actually you only need a small set of objects to do almost anything
4. The new desiredata interface will fix this by offering an object browser

If you are on Linux try

> locate pd_linux

If your on osx try right clicking on empty space in a window and choosing help.
Then from that list right-click and help again on an object for more info.

I don't know if these are all of them, but its definately more than i'm currently using..

If you look in the help browser, you'll see all the help patches under "5.reference". That's the most complete list of included objects that I know of.
