This is the Autechre maxmsp patch which someone has converted to PD.

That envelope is in: pd fmsna/pd functions ... but the modulator envelope for all of those instruments is in bad shape.

Also PD crashes whenever I close the patch. Using 0.42.5 extended

Can anyone debug this?

Working outstandingly fantastic here with 0.43.1 x64 !

In 0.43.1 x86 win it no longer crashes on exit but the envelopes are still bad.

yeah its going out of the box's boundaries. Where did you find this patch ?

I grabbed it off some forum but the origins are murky but supposedly is an H20 (old cracking group) 1.1 remake of the maxmsp patch Autechre allegedly made and then which got leaked onto some russian website either by themselves or someone else.

When you close pd while the envelope is outputting values it will crash. Just make the envelope has stopped it's output and then you should be able to close pd without problems.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if this is a legitimate Autechre patch, or is it something someone else made in their style? Either way, it's pretty awesome. I'm surprised that all of the sounds seem to be synthesized through FM; I have no idea how to generate half of those sounds.

I don't know for sure if it's actually their patch, but I've seen the Max/MSP version of it. Interestingly, the FM stuff is pretty much a copy/paste from the MSP tutorials.

Hmmm, I was actually going through the FM tutorials in MSP a few nights ago. There were some great sounds even in that simple patch, but nothing quite like the stuff in this patch. I guess it just shows how much you can get out of a little variation and weighted randomness.

It's tutorial 11 in Max 5. simpleFM~.pd is basically the same thing as the [simpleFM~] abstraction, the envelopes are in [pd functions], and the presets are spread out in message boxes in [pd presets]. But in the Max/MSP version of this patch it is the same thing as Tutorial 11.

FM is pretty awesome. You can do so much with so little.
