Hi guys, Im new on PD and linux... and this netbook is my acquisition. So, I have a lot of technical stuff to solve. And this is a lil bit of that stuff.

The problem is: pure data block my audio ouput drivers or somthing like that. Thats what I guess, because when I use another aplications, there are no troubles, but when I build any patch and turn on the compute audio option on the main window, is not Pd the only one whitout working, but any other applications with sounds to play.

I've tried updating the system as many as I can, changing the audio options in both Pd as on Ubuntu system settings, but nothing works.

I will appreciate any help.

well, Ive solved the half problem, and is lil silly, it was just choose the right driver option in the media menu in the main window... yes... silly. The right one in my case is the ALSA option. But the problem about the muted sounds on any other aplications working as Pd is running persists. Any clue?

PD using the alsa drivers tends to lockout the sound output of other software because it's accessing the hardware at such a low level. The biggest conflict being any sound coming out of a web browser like firefox doesn't work (and in some cases will lock up the sound completely, necessitating a reboot )

Have you installed JACK? using JACK will allow you better control over routing sound from various programs to each other or out of the speakers. There's even guides online to help route the sound of applications that don't use JACK (like firefox) into JACK.
