I just noticed that whenever I launch pd-extended 0.42.5 on windows 7 64bit professional I get a crappy process running called wish85 which is meant to be by ActiveState.
Killing that process kills pd. Deleting the file and cleaning registry doesn't let pd run.
I uninstalled and reinstalled pd-extended and got the same crappy process running again...

Anyone else having this problem?

When I ran Pd on a wxxdows xp machine it showed the same process, but I didn't notice any abnormal behaviour. It ran quite well.
Is is really doing something like consuming a lot of resources?
I moved on to Debian three years ago to work on a system that I like a lot more, but those are personal reasons (seems that here it's not so kind to show one's preferences) and Pd runs as smooth as lukewarm water as well.
I hope that wish85.exe process is nothing "malicious".

I believe wish85.exe is the process from the tcl/tk library that's responsible for all gui related purposes. It seems tightly coupled to the pd.exe executable. I'm not sure what you mean with "crappy" process?

Hi everybody:
@domien just gave me the idea of starting pd from a ms-dos console with the -nogui option. It may not load the tcl/tk stuff and pehaps not load wish85.exe as well. I remember that there was a tool in ms-windxxs to find out to which folder the programs in memory belonged. If that process belongs to a pd related folder, then it should be normal to have it running.

first of all sorry for the late post...

yeah crappy was the best word to describe the wish85 process. I just didn't know what it does and wish85 seemed to me like some malware process. In any case as you said it's from the tcl/tk library.

btw pd was running slow due to the patch I was testing not the wish85 process.

I'm working on a patch for a class project and up until a few hours ago everything was fine. I closed PD, then came back to it, but the file refuses to open. I get the "watch" symbol for a few minutes, then PD Quits all on its own. I can open larger files, and so far I've changed the file name, unistalled & reinstalled PD-Extended, restarted several times, and am pretty much out of ideas.

My computer seems to have become rather sluggish from this point on as well.
I'm using MAC OSX and the most recent edition of PD-Extended.

Any advice is appreciated...

Just some random ideas...

Why don't you use some task manager to see what's going on in your system, to see what process is stealing some resources, and so on, while you open Pd.

And you may also try to open the file from Pd's menu, not calling Pd from the file.

Also remember that you can edit the .pd file with any text editor...maybe you can modify sthg that will recover it. You might want to do these experiments using a copy and not the original file.
