Urban sound interacts with images of the street and corrupts them. An exploration of the interaction between sound and the city, the urban structure and people.
Sound Vitale reflects and makes us reflect on the acoustic conditions in Via San
Vitale (Bologna - Italy), documenting the devastating effect of traffic on the street.
Images by photographer Kirby Kaufman are distorted and shattered by urban noise
picked up by a microphone and processed in real time.
We don't perceive the full impact of ambient noise. Even after we get used to it
the brain and the muscles of the body continue hearing and feeling its effects.

Sound Vitale is designed by Ilaria Mancino and developed by Fabio Iaci using the real time graphical programming environment Pure Data.
