Is there a way to remove the fill of all objects (obj,message,atom,radio,slider, etc) so that they could assume the color of a canvas placed behind them?

I've looked at the sys_gui object and found a near solution with "set obj_box_fill 0"
but the border seems to disappear as well.

Hi Katz,

You can send a message to the GUI objects to change their background colour. Objects and message boxes don't have receives for this but they are transparent anyway.

In the attached patch the GUI objects have a 'test' receive symbol. Sending a 'color f f f' message to this will change the background color for all these objects (including the canvas).

That's only in vanilla, not extended.

I would think [sys_gui] or maybe [tot] would be the way to go, but I don't really know my way around tcl.

In the version I use (it is MacOSX) the atom,object and message boxes have fills. Here is a picture.

What are you trying to achieve?

Nothing beyond aesthetic nitpicking so it's not crucial.

The more I use PD the more these little things start to present themselves.

However, transparent objects DO make coloring a group of objects very easy. The method in your example would be fine for color-assignable objects as long as they do not need the "receive" field for something else.

You can send any message to a gui object's internal receive. You're not just stuck with only sending it a [color( message.

Maelstorm that is true - sorry to complicate matters.

I will try out PD vanilla, download the necessary libraries and see if that works out.
