Hi, this is my first post to this forum so I'm not sure if it's correct to attach an image of the patch in question...I'm not really sure how you could upload it otherwise. Anyway, I'm following pd-tutorial.com and have encountered a bug when trying to make a counter that creates rests at random intervals set off by the metro. I highlighted the part that gives me trouble in the image I attached. Instead of resetting to 0, the number keeps increasing indefinitely. On the left you can see the sample I'm following, and as far as I can see they're identical. Do you guys know what I'm doing wrong?

When you click the message that outputs -1, does it reset the count? I find it odd that that isn't working; it looks to me like you have everything connected right, and the patch works for me. Since you're reading the tutorial, you are probably already familiar with how this works, but basically, [sel 1] shoots out a bang from its left outlet every time it receives 1 in its left inlet. This means that if you started the counter before attaching the [+ 1] box to [sel 1], it will have already passed 1. Since the counter already passed 1, it will never reset itself.

One thing that I noticed though is that you forgot to connect the outlet of metro to the inlet of the random object. Since there is nothing sending a bang to the random object, it won't send any values out.

Also, since you were wondering, uploading an image is fine, but sometimes it's more useful to just attach the whole patch. Then people at the forum can open and troubleshoot by just looking around in the patch.

Yeah, clicking the -1 reset the count. Oddly it just worked when I deleted some connections and redrew them. I don't know why it wasn't working in the first place. Thanks.

It is very important to know order of operation in pd. It is much safer to use [trigger] instead of many wires going from one to many objects. With [trigger] you can always tell which message will pass first, which will be second... With "many wires" system you have to know the order of creation of the wires because pd sends data through the "oldest" wire first. I'm almost sure that's the reason why your patch suddenly started to work when you redrew the wires.
