I have a Ozone Midi controller with soundcard and SuSE 10 system - I have managed to get Rosegarden running with both midi and audio using jack.

I can get audio from pd but no Midi input. If I start jack then there is no audio.

q1 : I thought there was a pd-with-jack distribution, or should it just work?
q2 : Any ideas on how to debug Midi with pd?

You need to start Pd with the -jack option and select jack from the audio device menu inside Pd too. Sounds like Pd is running using the default audio (OSS) right now and so starting jack causes the fight over /dev/dsp. Always start the jack server first.

Sorry, no ideas about MIDI, I don't use that much.
