Hi people,
Is it possible to send midi messages from Pd directly to Reason without passing through my soundcard?
The solution I found is to set in the Pd preferences the output device as being my MOTU. Then I connect the output of this MOTU to its input with a MIDI cable (I know this isnt elegant). I turn on the Reason and it receives the MIDI signals. The problem is that sometimes I have MIDI overflow. I imagine there might be a lower level solution that could send the information without passing through my soundcard.
It would be like rewiring Reason to work with Pd.

Any suggestions?

hello, why do you use reason? It hasn't got a really good sound and it's very limited and empiric.
A good advice would be about using VST instruments rather for having the same kind of instruments but with having the possibility of making your own with VST-SDK, and without being limited by the inefficiency of sound processing and communication protocols of REASON. VST is also pure data compatible.

Also you couldn't even make an external that handle rewire because it's not source free.

You can certainly use midiyoke, or mapledriver for wiring MIDI between REASON and PURE DATA
but with accusing a latency that couldn't be below 25ms in one direction

indeed, if you connect MIDI in to MIDI out on a windows machine, you would see with [timer] that the latency couldn't go below 50ms even with making any effort for optimizing your machine.

I have to thank you a lot. I didn't know VST. Do you know any tutorial I could read about that? I understood it is a powerfull tool . I didn't get yet how can one design plug-ins. Also are the VSTi and plug-ins for free? Where can I find it?
