this is my first post here...
I'm totally new in pd, started with it 5 days ago and it is awesome!!! For now, it all goes well with the progress in creation of my own patches. But one thing makes me concerned. How is it possible to make pd to do a live job when I cannot make it go lower than 50 msec of lantecy without audible glitiches and pops? OK, glitches ARE the reason why I've chosen pd, but I like glitches in the places I want them to be. My setup is: CPU Intel Core2 Duo 3.16 GHz, 4GB RAM, RME HDSP 9652, Yamaha AW4416. When I'm doing something outside the pd, everything seems fine, even with the latency as low as 3 msecs. Is there anything I can do to make the pd respond imediatelly to incoming messages?

the general answer seems to be: use JACK for your audio.

It might help to mention your OS as well. In OSX I've found jack is the answer, but I can still get below 50ms with portaudio.

in jack i've had 64 samples (1.45ms) buffer with no glitches.

Portaudio i can use nicely at 20ms , but thats with no live input
