Hello forumers,
programming with pd still makes some troubles as not all of the objects being recognized, or I should say are not added and loaded during startup. I found this link http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/12841513/com/pd-extended-0.41.4-1.fc10.ccrma.i386.rpm.html) and as I see here are loads of libraries and objects that could ease my life but don't understand how to follow instructions to add them and make work. Even can't find file with audio configuration flags to set delay time, sample rate and etc. I on Ubuntu 9.04

The only idea that comes to my mind is to remove all the installations of pd and install a fresh copy and to put all I have found (hyperlink), because many folders with pd files, libraries, extras, references exist on my computer and I already don't know where to copy a new stuff I find.

That's Pd-extended. It's a version of Pd that comes bundled with a ton of libraries and externals. If you're on Ubuntu, you should probably use the one here:

Yes, not long ago I've tried all of them. But succeeded then installed from somewhere else. As I understand, no matter what version is in my computer, I just need to put all those libraries to avoid red objects in patches. Is it enough just to copy those folder with objects to pd folder an to put startup paths, or what should be done? I guess not, because info in such files like "makefile" says something different what seems not for me to understand...

I don't use Linux, so I don't know the specifics of how it works there, but you shouldn't have to move anything if you install Pd-extended. The default startup preferences should load the most common libraries. Other included libraries can be added in the Startup dialog. If it's not working, the only thing I know of that might be the problem is the issue that many have with the preferences file. You might have to delete one from a previous install, then reinstall Pd-extended. Are you getting a lot of messages like "cyclone: can't load library" in the Pd window when it starts? If so, this is probably the issue. Otherwise, maybe someone on Ubuntu can give you a little more insight.

But, I suspect you need to put the libraries you found into your "extras" folder.

So, I reinstalled pd again and had problems with iemlib1,2 mp3... libraries to load as before. I Solved this by copying files *.pd_linux and problem solved. In verbose mode I see that many libraries tried but couldn't load *.pd_linux for the library paths. what's the problem? Do you (who are experienced in pd) have all abjects working for you (like [xgroove~])? do you have ambisonic patches working on your pd's (if use them at all)?

I believe there is something to explain about this.
Then I start pd file from a library pd prints that libdir_loader added missing objects, GEM's and patches works. when I start pd and search for patch to open it starts and miss objects again. I copied those patches to the directory 5.reference to see if then it will work, and no, no, no... works only then I star file from there.

Any guidelines, thoughts, intuitions....

one more thing. Maelstorm, your link is quite clear and instructions are simple. I deleted all default.pdsettings files but no luck. Did I misunderstood something?

[xgroove~] is unstable and many people have problems getting it to work. Also, the most recent stable release of Pd-extended is 41.4. If you have 42.5 installed, then it sounds like you're running Pd vanilla, which does not include all of these libraries. Get rid of vanilla and try just extended (from the link I posted earlier), see if that works.

I did reinstalled pd 42-5 to 41.4. All libraries are found that I manually added with vanilla. Looks like I don't really removed the file that keeps the data even for further installations, because even audio settings remained the same. Going to try again.

Hm, second time just iemlib's was gone, but I loaded them easily, because have a files saved separately. Audio settings still remained from other installations.

4.2-5 Vanilla works. libraries are ok now. A file I needed to delete was in the folder which is the one I usually get first in to.
