I've been using pd-extended in winxp, and ubuntu, but now I have access to a macbook with leopard 10.4. I can't use my korg nanokontrol with pd. could you please tell me how to connect this midi controller with pd?

I have installed the korg editor software and usb midi program

Pd-Extended-->Preferences-->MIDI settings... should get you there. Just click the "none" button and it should show up in the popup list. I just saw a thread on this forum with a nanokontrol abstraction. Maybe it will help as well.

i just got a nanokontrol yesterday... and i can't for the life of me figure out how to change the button behavior. as it is now the buttons are set to momentary and i want them to function as toggles. i downloaded the korg kontrol editor (as well as the usb midi driver) and when i set the buttons to function as toggles it never seems to take. as soon as i open Pd and try it, they are still all acting as momentary buttons.

the weird thing was that the nanokontrol worked with Pd right off the bat without necessarily downloading the driver. Pd recognized it in the midi devices right away.

anyway, is there anybody with experience in setting the buttons to be toggles instead of momentary switches?

nevermind... literally 5 minutes after i posted the question i figured it out. had to "write scene set" or something. i'm sure i would have gotten helpful hints from someone if i didn't figure it out, so thanks in advance to whoever that would have been.

so i know i just got the thing wokring this morning and only messed with it for a couple hours, but i did notice something a bit troublesome. i set it up to where i have the bottom row of buttons be momentary and modified it so each button press would give just one bang (instead of a bang on the press and release of the buttons) and that all worked fine. i was playing drum samples with the buttons but i noticed that if i hit two of the buttons simultaneously i would only get one of the samples to play and sometimes neither sample would play. it felt a bit like trying to play two notes on a monophonic synth.

which leads to my question: is the nanokontrol "monophonic" in terms of the messages it can send. i am still happy with it and i know it is only $60, but i'd like to know if this is a limitation or if there is a way to work around it so i can play multiple buttons together.

i kinda noticed the same thing when i tried to move multiple sliders at once... i sort of had to stagger the movements a bit to get them to all move smoothly.

actually, i think it might have something to do with how i have the single bang buttons set up. i just saw how someone else uses [select 127] to make it bang once. i was using spigots with [==0] going into the right side... or something like that.

always remember that this forum is amazing.
in many occasions, with a simple accurate search, i found the answer i need just because somebody else had the same problem before i had it...

yeah, i tend to do a lot of searches on different key words when i'm having a problem... i usually don't post a question (i.e., admit defeat) unless i can't find the answer otherwise. of course, today was an exception because i'm at work and bored.
