Hello again,

this time my problem is that each time I press and hold a key on my pc keyboard, a [key] object bangs not once, but it bangs many times very quickly. The same is with other keyboard related objects, they all doesn't work properly when I hold a key.
I use pd-extended 0.40.3 on Ubuntu 8.10, if it matters.

Any help is welcome:)

Are you using [key] to have events triggered by specific keys that you are pressing on your keyboard? If so, this is what you actually have to do:

[key]
|
[sel 113] <- Here you should type in the key number as argument - in this case "Q" will have the [sel] sent a bang.

You can connect a number box to the [key] to see which number it outputs anytime you press a key.

If you are not interested in assigning specific keys to have your events triggered but no matter what you press on your keyboard you want [key] to send bang only once:

[key]
|
[change]

would be a solution to get rid off multiple bangs.

Hi, jumping in with my first post on this forum

You could use [keyname].
At its left outlet, it outputs a 1 for key-down and a 0 for key-up.
repeated keystrokes while holding down a key will all have a 1 in the left outlet, so you can block those (spigot) on these two conditions:
-has the same key name as the previous
-no 0 for this key has occured yet (you havent released and repressed the key yet)
That way you _can_ enter the same key twice, but only if you release it first.
I haven't made a patch to show this yet, but that's the reasoning I would base it on...

Hans submitted this as a bug a while back, and it's been bothering me for a while too. tim167's solution would be a good one, except that (in Ubuntu at least) the autorepeated keypresses show up as a 0 and then a 1 again. If it's really urgent, you can turn off Ubuntu's autorepeat in System>Preferences>Keyboard (at least that's where it is for me in 7.10). But the bug should be fixed because you really shouldn't have to turn off autorepeat to get a patch to work properly.

Does it work for you? On my system I tried [keyname] and holding down a key gave me a stream of 1s and 0s.

On my Ubuntu 8.10 this method worked fine, but when I tried on DamnSmallLinux with pd installed, I also got 0s and 1s so it is not an ideal solution, but as for me it is enough while the bug isn't solved.
