I'm investigating pd and would like to learn it via Flash where I can experiment making sounds with my own UI. So, my question is, what are the general steps to get Flash->osc->pd going?

* install an osc external (or does one come with pd-extended?)

* get flosc up and running? or is there something better?

* do I create a pure data osc patch? Is a server launched when pd starts? Or do I have to drop into code to get something configured?

Basically, could someone please outline the general attack strategy to get me started in the right direction.

Connecting osc in PD is easy this is all you need to launch the server bit

[connect localhost 1337( you could use any number there, just make sure you use
| the same number in flosc
|
[sendOSC]

after that you just use a message box like this
[send /typetag message(
where /typetag is the typetag proceeded by a /
and message is your message(you could use $1 there) also you can send multiple from the one message box, just by seperating with comma, and repeating the whole "send /typetag message" bit

just check out the sendOSC help file

I've just given a try to FLOSC and it seems to work nice...
Just used the example ".swf" though, so i didn't try to receive data in flash from pd, but the other way's ok, and seems pretty fast and solid.

I think this is really opening some doors for puredata patches UI designs to me.

... which reminds me that I'd tried Flosc earlier, and have now tried it again, but, that .swf file just refuses to open for me.

The computer just says ..blah-blah.."The device is not ready", if I try to open it directly. And, I'm told that "An unknown error has occurred" if I try to open it in my browser.

I'm on XP, with Pd version 0.40.3-extended-20080721
