Hi all,

This should be the easiest thing in the world, and it might seem to you very elementary,
but I'm really new with this pure data stuff (and a bit bloond - not much of advantage)
and I cannot figure this out.

I'm trying to read a wav file and put it into an array (fine with that), and then make fourier
transformation using a 40ms window with 20 ms shifting, and then compute the energies
of each window and store them in another array....

Can anybody please help me with this....give me some advice, hints, anything???

Those are multiple questions in one post =>

1. to load a wav file into an array use the [soundfiler] object

2. to perform the fft you should :

• play the sound from the array : use [tabplay~] or [tabread4~] objects
• analyze the sound with the fft objects: [fft~]/[ifft~] or [rfft~]/[rifft~]

Right clicking an object you can usually get some help for it.
In the help browser there's quite some information on how to use the fft objects as well.

PS : sorry, opened the patch after my first post => so you discovered the tabplay~ object, it's on that output that you should perform the fft, not using the [tabread] object.

you can switch the samplerate and blocksize with [switch~] and loading pd with the '-samplerate' or '-sr' or something flag. (away from my computer at the moment). switch is the key to the overlap.

to get the 40ms window, you need to pick a sample rate that gives you 2^x samples over the 40ms time, as the fast fourier transform requires a square window. so lets say 1024 samples over 40ms- 25.6khz is a good sample rate for that.
