Okay, hello guys. Excited to be here... I've recently become hooked on Pd.

I can do a fair bit with it already but I'm just getting really fed up now that practically every patch I download from someone else contains at least one object or some kind of abstraction I either don't understand or don't have some how.

On Mac OS X PPC 10.4, I've downloaded Pd Extended, but I'm pretty sure I don't have all of these libraries that many of you talk about. (isn't that what Extended is supposed to be all about?) I really want to start working with GEM.

at start up, I always get this in the console. This is bad, no?

... but the X11 installer is telling me that 'newer software already exists'

How can i tell if i have x11 already installed?

did you use the X11 installer on the OSX 10.4 install DVD, or one you downloaded? If you try to download the installer from apple and use that it'll give you that error even if you don't have X11 installed at all.

Apple don't make X11 for tiger available; they force you to use the original system installer DVD. Why? Because they want to make your life difficult.

Do some googling for "X11 Tiger" and you'll find a lot of frustrated yelling and also some solutions.

arif, did you succeed to install X11 in the end?
I have the same problem, X11 installer tells me that newer software exists on the computer, but than it's also a complete mess with the file sizes (software requires 91.5MB, but elsewhere it says 24.7GB, so in the end of the day I just cannot even continue the installation..

yes, I have seen your post, but honestly, I do not exactly know where to start, I am ok as a music software person, but for more general computer issues I do not really have a clue. Also, I am not sure if your log exactly suits what I need, I am on a G4 Powerbook and OSX10.4.11.
So yes, any help is warmly appreciated, I'll keep looking, and also coming back to check here..

thanks for the answer, this looks good for sure.
The url inside your link, for the puredata.info page seems erased. But I did suppress the .plist file mentionned. I did not get to manually load the "libdir" library, but now at booting this is the log I get:

Hello, I see the the object [for] pop up from time to time. I don't have it, nor [list2symbol] (Zexy and Gridflow). Again, isn't my copy of Extended supposed to encapsulate all of this?

sorry if i didn't RTFM but i don't know where the manual on all of this is!
