After seeing the spiffing clever use of [vsl] for a button, I was thinking of the various ways of creating buttons in Pd.

Is it possible to use canvas? - i know you can poll the x,y position of it but...

I tried that one before the [vsl] trick and didn't manage to get canvas to send messages or values. Seems like [cnv] doesn't have input actions... Only the positions of the objects on it can be sent to the output of [cnv].

That's what i understood. Maybe (i hope so) i'm wrong.

Another trick i've seen (in hardoff's patches) is to put a canvas over a trigger button. By clicking on the canvas the underlying trigger still gets is on/off state. You can then use the trigger to give the canvas another color.

Recently, while browsing through the extra folder, i stumbled upon the [mknob] and now the [knob]. Why are these controls not in the default "put" menu, because they seem very practical?

Sunji & Domien, i'm impressed you can get rotative buttons. I never saw that in any patch (until Sunji's ). But i think that it is pretty handy: While i would rather have linear faders to control, mm, say enveloppes because it makes more sense visually, i prefer to have rotative buttons to control filter values or pan.

I know pd isn't focused on ui objects, but i'm pretty onto graphical interfaces and i think i'll make use of these new-for-me buttons quite a lot.

I also went into the extra folder some days ago and found a patch that catched the mouse pos (in fact it seems to me it was more like and acceleration value than a position value). Unfortunately i can't get my pointer on it again... Anyone can tell ?
