HI

I was interested this weekend to tryout [jack_transport] from "externals/tb/jack_transport" in the cvs repository.

As there as no binary for OSX, it decided to embark on compiling the source, so I downloaded XCode 2.5 and the jack_transport package with a cvs client.

There doesn't seem to be a ./configure file, only makefile. Is it missing something, or do I need to install additional libraries?

I should point out that I have never built from source on osx, so I really don't have a clue what to do!! If someone has built this for OSx already that would be very helpful or if someone could give me some helpful pointers that would be great.

I tried that once and I think it needed to have jack dev libs, not sure what they are called on OSX.

Try just typing
make clean
make all

this is totally beyond me at the moment. Mind you thats what I said about PD when I first started

I have some of the include files already like jack.h. I guess they must have been installed with Jack. But where do I find 'm_pd.h' and 'stdio.h'. How does the makefile know where to look for the dependencies?

Do I need to install fink?

Jeepers theres a distinct lack of documentation in the external download...

Ok I did it!

I had to grab a few c header files and paste them into the same directory adn change the makefile, and Im sure thats a very dirty way of doing things and i will get my hands slapped by a developer

So Ardour is master transport, and now I'm seeing transport information before my very eyes

Great work - that's the same one by Jacob that I built. Never got it working with Ardour though.

Didn't you? - thats interesting. What problems did you have exactly?

I emailed him, and he said that he has no problems with Ardour.

I'm using x11 version of Ardour 2.4.1. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? He said that the external doesn't register itself as a timebase master, and therefore shouldn't manipulate jack transport.

I'll do more testing and get back.

Maybe that explains it. IIRC the plan was to control Ardour's transport from Pd. I could get it to start and stop, but not see any timecode. That was very soon after Jacob released it, in fact I think I compiled it the same day it was posted, and using a rather old Ardour and Pd, so no doubt it's improved.
