I am pleased to say I've finished phase 1 of a project I've been mulling over for some time. I've gotten a working PD installation on a Linksys Nslu2, and have 'talked' to another machine via [netsend]. My distro is Debian ARM 4.0r3 in ixp4xx. My eventual goal is to compile OSCx for the nslu2's ARM architecture and use it as an HID->OSC interface, thus allowing me to control any number of devices on a local network via UDP/TCP.

Phase two, as I see it is compiling the necessary externals for Hans' arduino firmata(ZEXY, comport...?.) Eventually I will also need OSCx. I want to avoid compiling the entire extended package, as I am NOT cross-compiling, and the nslu2 will probably take it's sweet time. So, If anyone here can let me know where I might run into a snag with this architecture (or little-endian?), please let me know before I spend (waste?) anymore hours. Also, I'll chip away at it, but if anyone has a list of dependencies for pduino, that would be super.

Let me know If you want any more gory details as well.

So, compiler can't find pd libraries?

The linker cant find them. So, you first need to build them for the ARM (?)

##So, where's the source? Should i compile pd-vanilla from svn?

1. "Checked out" the entire /trunk of the svn.
2. configured the OSCx externals
3. removed -lpd form the makefile
4. made (maked?)
5. loaded sendOSC as an independant binary.
6. ssh'd into my slug with X-forwarding
7. sent OSC messages over UDP!

This is progressing quite nicely. I linux.

1. Compiled comport
2. Installed Mapping, Hardware, not IEM however (what and where is Flatspace?)
3. Flashed Arduino with Firmata.
4. Started pd and loaded arduino test patch.
5. Set pin 13 high and the led lit.s
6. Wired a button from arduino +5v to digital pin 13 and analog pin 0
7. Monitored in firmware and recieved analog and digital signals with no noticeable latency (yet)
8. Threw together a simple sendOSC patch and successfully sent messages based on button presses.
9. Yay.

So, now I'll be cleaning up the Debian install to improve latency, removing un-needed networking daemons and such. I'll probably write this all up with pictures this weekend and post the results. It's great to know all of this stuff works so well on ARM.

Very good Nesto It's an exiting project. A friend in London showd me Pd on his Nokia (ARM too I think) running some quite substantial patches. I think you'll be pleased with how much you can squeeze out of one of those 200MHz babys.

Ihope you find time to write up a howto - imho your approach is almost perfect for art installations / museum kiosks ... and I know we have quite a lot more of that kind of user now. Great stuff.

I am very glad I found your post. I successfully installed PD on a SmartQ v7 and the only thing missing is OSC. I came across the same error as you did.

And read your solution... but need help..

• which trunk did you check out ? pure data vanilla or OSC
• how did you configure the external ? (./configure ?) or did you do something by hand
• how did you remove -lpd from makefile (could not find it in the file)

I have basic liinux knowledge and usually figure the stuff out with the help of google but I need a prod in the right direction. Could you write a howto ?
