I did this through deken, and although it marks installation successful (and with the "add newly installed libraries to search path" configuration checkbox turned on), when I try to check the manuals that come with the library I get the "couldnt create" error repeatedly.

What could be causing the incorrect use of the library?

pure data tries several paths to find the externals but if it does not find the path it will give that error.

you can add the path/to/cream to your preferences .. might be tucked away deep in a user app data folder if its in windows

or use "cream/" in front of their names [cream/nameOfExternal] - this is what I do now, its probably the laziest option and it also serves documentation in case the external hasnt been installed on another computer
