I've tried to build a distortion just using some parametric filters for boost the input signal,and than a clipper..
..but the results are not so good..
do you have some suggestions?

I havent find any good distortion algorithms on the web..

would anyone care to elaborate on this? I am confused on how to modulate tables with another table? what objects are used to input into the first array and what objects are used to index the normalised array? thanks....

I dont know if its what you are looking for but, It shows one way modulate a wavetable with another.

Put up a table with a size of 8192 called $0-waveTable. Then this is what i did:

[inlet~]

[*~ 4096]
|
[+~ 4096]
|
[tabread~ $0-waveTable]
|
[outlet~]

Now manually draw in the table and you'll hear the waveshaping (at least, that's what i think it is). So every possible sample value, ranging from -1 to 1, will be replaced by it's corresponding value in the table, and it sounds very nice to me. Thanx obi for this.

Isn't B02 more an example of fm synthesis, where you have an audio source (e.g. an oscillator) modulating the frequency of a second oscillator?

Oh yeah!~ It gets better - try using a [tabsend~] to write to the indexed table. I actually ended up using a table only 64 positions in length, just right for the default blocksize and it sound ahhhmayyyzing.

Now it's your turn to shed some more light on what you're doing i guess

I've been playing with the technique posted by domien for a guitar amp simulator effect. I used a much smaller table (12) and tabread4~. This is much easier to fine tune. Follow it with some EQ and freeverb~ and it sounds as good as any other amp simulator I've used.

I took arif's waveshape array and made it time dependent (with attack and release settings). It's just an example and could be made better.

Should be a little closer to an amp simulator.
