Hi,
I'm trying to send on/off data from a patch in pd to a single row grid in mobmuplat but for some reason It's not working. The input/ output console in mobmuplat shows the data coming in but for some reason it's coming in as floats instead of integers which is strange because in pd's console the message shows up as integers.

I notice on the mobmuplat website it just says that the grid input will take:

"a trio of numbers to set a grid cell: cellX, cell Y, value (0 or 1)."

Then when I click on one of the grid boxes in the mobmuplat editor it shows the output from the grid is: -

/moment0 0 0 1

(the target grid cell is called moment0)

So this matches up with what I've got printing in the pd console but for some reason the numbers convert to floating points when they enter mobmuplat. And nothing happens to the grid GUI element

I understand that this isn't a mobmuplat forum but I didn't know where else to ask. There isn't really much support out there for it from what I can see.

the grid has only one row and 16 columns. but like I day I'm only trying to control the first cell for now. the name of the grid is moment0

@liamorourke mmp was always vanilla.
But on the Pd side extended was usual, and the OSC objects were I think from the MrPeach library.
This...... PdWrapper.pd will (I am pretty sure) send three integers from Pd.
Save (move) your current [pdwrapper] somewhere out of the way (temporarily) in a folder that does not have its path set in Pd...... and put the one I posted in its place. Then open your patch and see if it sends integers and if it works.
It will break the other float guis until you put the old [pdwrapper] back....... but will test for an integer problem with the grid.
Then you can post an issue and if you don't get a reply we can modify [pdwrapper] to work with all guis and make it available for others.

that's it David... it works with the new pdwrapper.
i've checked it with a toggle (in mmp) as well and that also works but haven't checked any other GUI objects yet.
The only issue now is that I'm getting a varying delay between pressing the toggle in pd and the GUI updating in mmp.
The pure data print out says "netsend/netreceive blocked 22 miliseconds"
the amount of miliseconds varies each time i click the toggle but it does it to some extent every time.

@liamorourke The saturation of netsend/netreceive might be because you have a feedback loop between Pd and Mobmuplat.
I cannot see the rest of your patch so I cannot tell if that is the case.
If you are using Mobmuplat as the primary input for data you should use a "set" message for data you send from Pd to mobmuplat so that Mobmuplat does not send the data straight back to Pd.
This evening I will make you a wrapper that will work for all the guis (but only for you in this setup).
But before that..... could you please test the original [pdwrapper] with "MMPExamples-Sequencer" here.... https://github.com/monkeyswarm/MobMuPlat/tree/master/Shared/patches
It contains a grid...... shows how to prepend the set message to the data to stop a feedback loop.... and if it works with the original [pdwrapper] then your problem was somewhere else.....

I've just tried the 'set' message and it seems to work nice and smoothly now.

Okay... I've just tried MMPExamples-Sequencer.mmp with the MMPExamples-Sequencer.pd from the same folder... firstly, with the original pdwrapper. I tested all of the GUI elements as they are supposed to be used first and they all work fine. However, I then wanted to test whether data was being sent from within pd to the grid in mmp... so to test that I set up the following

[send toGUI]

and it didn't work!

I then tried EXACTLY the same setup with the new pdwrapper that you edited last night and it works again. I also noticed that with the original pdwrapper the mmp console shows floats coming in and with the new pdwrapper it shows integers.

So far the other GUI controls seem to be working correctly with the new pdwrapper as well
I've tried sending data with a grid from mmp to pd (instead of the other way round) as well as sending from mmp to pd with both sliders and rotary knobs... and they are all working nicely.

i think i might have ran into a problem which might be to do with what you were saying about how you had edited the pd wrapper for mobmuplat for me. You were saying that it might 'break' some of the other gui objects.

So far everything actually seems to be working fine however, when I prepend a message to the grid with the word "set" in order to block return communication, the outward message (from pd to mmp) becomes a float again. Which means that the grid doesn't recognize it. looking at the mmp console, it has actually changed the message so that it starts with /set instead of /flash so maybe it's just that i'm not prepending the message correctly. But it's strange that the last value has changed back to a float. Which was the problem before.

Also, It sort of works without the set prepend but then I get a return message every time i send one and this is causing netsend/netreceive blocked errors.

Hi there..i discovered this problem as well. When the patch is running on androiddevice everything works fine..!

When I try to put a cell to active, it will show one diagonal line highlighted, but not responding to the numbers in the message...
So I ve tried many combinations to maybe get it working..but it got worser as you can see in the screenshot..sending 5 1 0 [in]......result is [out] 5 5 1...weird..

In the task manager I see wish85.exe *32...could it cause a problem with pd 64bit?

@borelei Wish85.exe *32 is fine if you also see pd.exe *32 or pd.com *32 in the task manager.
That means you are running a 32 bit version of Pd.
For a 64-bit Pd you would see pd.exe and wish86.exe.
It looks like for you mobmuplat is receiving floats just fine...... but they have commas like 1,000
That is weird..... or are they decimal points like 1.000....... hard to see on the screenshot.

@liamorourke I have an idea for a fix which will mean you can send [pdwrapper] a formatting message from the pd patch for each change of message type. I will upload it here asap.
I will then try to automate it but I am not sure it's possible given the various messages that can be sent.
I need to look at why there is an extra float going to the grid and how the /flash command is supposed to work...... so I need to do a fair bit of research in the examples on the Mobmuplat github.
CAN you post a link to where the "flash" is documented please?
I thought feedback was causing the network errors. It is good to know that is the cause.

If you could both zip up and upload your complete pd patch to this thread that would be useful for testing.... even though I cannot do a complete test with an Android device.

hi David... thanks for getting back to me. When you open my patch you will find that everything to do with messages being sent to MMP are in the supatch called [pd tempoGUI]

I have marked everything up in that subpatch and have commented as much as i can to make things easier for you.

the pdwrapper I have supplied in the zip is the newer version that you already did some editing on.

So the [list prepend set] should be before [list prepend /flash] so that the message becomes.....

okay with the patch left exactly as you've sent it I'm getting: -

oscformat: no method for 'sliii'
in the pd console

and I'm only getting the button 'off' messages: -

[in] /flash 15 0 0
[out] /flash 15 0 0

etc. in the mmp console.

And just seen that I need to add set to other parts of that subpatch as well.
I cannot see where the tempo bar "/flash" output is coming back into Pd .... so I cannot see the feedback that causes the network block and means the set message is required.

I think you should only receive tempo in the [pd GUI] radio bar....... and not send it....... remove the send address........

okay... this seems interesting. I didn't get any signals through to MMP with that last patch. so just to check that I had everything opened properly I decided to edit the patch so that it was the same as it was before with just
[list prepend /flash] to see if I get the messages through to MMP back.

and every time I connected [list prepend /flash] to [send toGUI] pure data crashes... as in it instantly closes. I tried it 3 times and it did the same thing (crashed) at the exact moment the two objects.

I have put the [pdwrapper] into [grid] so that it is opened at the same time.
I have just put Mobmuplat on my phone so as to stop working in the dark.
I get the message pd file chowsaw-newer.pd not found when I open grid.mmp...... any ideas?

that's okay... it's looking for chopsaw-newer.pd as the pd patch file to link to. I think that was the name when i originally posted it. but then somewhere along the lines I changed it to the same name as the mmp file to make things simpler.

You can change which pd file mmp looks for in the editor on your laptop/ computer. it's under the 'doc' tab at the top-ish left... in the option: 'main Pd file' browse for the patch you have edited and select that. Then obviously you need to upload both the mmp file and the selected pd patch to you android device.

But i dont think the issue is about it running on android. it's about whats happening when pd is open with mobmuplat editor on pc/ mac.

I'm still not getting any messages through with the files in that last link you provided. Also my version of pd (vanilla) doesnt recognize the [pdwrapper] object that you've put in there. So i tried opening it seperately but still nothing.
