hello !
im new in pure data
and im curies about use multiplication~ (*~) in audio objects
when is the right time to multiplie between objects and not +~
im abit confused about that
thx !

multiplication

@greycat Well, it alls depends on what you want to achieve :
-
if you multiply [osc~] output with another signal [0;1], you make its amplitude vary between nothing and full amplitude
-
if you add [+~ -0.5] to a [phasor~], you basically remove the DC component of the ramp oscillator
-
if you multiply the output of two [osc~], you're doing Amplitude Modulation (AM)
-
if you add the output of two [osc~], you're doing additive synthesis
-
-
atm in trying to build a 2 osc's polyphonic synth with 4 waves each oscillator
and they are go trough a filter section with 3 options of filters (lpf, hpf or bpf (using radio to choose))
so im curius if i need to use +~ to connect between osc's (after i multiplie them for volume fader)
and than what is the right way to connect them to the filters (im using sel object for filters with messeges of 1 and 0)
thx ! -
If you want to be very explicit (and almost pd-pedantic ), use [+~}.
But really, no one (?) does this, and you can just connect each source directly to the filter which will take care of the adding process.
